The citizens' initiative for the planned reconstruction of the Mühlentorteller has reached its final phase. So far, 8,000 Lübeck residents have supported the demand to vote on the preservation of the Mühlentorteller. To collect the required 8,700 signatures by the deadline on August 27, every participation counts in the coming days.
The Green faction in the Lübeck city council, along with state parliament member Jasper Balke, is calling for active support for the preservation of the Mühlentorteller. Balke emphasizes: “It is right that the construction committee of the Hanseatic city has initiated changes to the Mühlentorteller due to the need for improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists. However, optimization within the existing structure is possible and, in our view, represents a better alternative to a radical reconstruction into a traffic light intersection. The preservation of smooth traffic flow and the cityscape at Mühlentor is important to many Lübeck residents. It is a strong sign that this civic will can have a direct impact on the actions of politics and administration through the instrument of the citizens' initiative.
Therefore, a big thank you to the many volunteers who are actively supporting the citizens' initiative and enabling direct democratic participation through their commitment. The current interest and broad support show that Lübeck residents are eager for direct involvement in shaping their own city.”
