She is renowned, she is unique, and she is definitely a bit crazy. She doesn't just have ONE green thumb, but two of them. "Gardening Without Much Fuss" is not only her motto but also the title of her current garden comedy live tour.
We are talking about Katrin Iskam, a trained and active nurse, but above all, the hottest discovery in the local gardening scene. Because who digs, shovels, and plants in rubber boots and a nightgown? Exactly, only "Katrinchen," as she is affectionately called by her fans. And there are quite a few of them now. More than 220,000 followers on her award-winning Instagram page @katrinsgarten, which won 1st place in the German Garden Book Prize. The self-taught gardener is a four-time SPIEGEL bestseller author (2022 "With Wit, Charm, and Method - The Different Gardening Book"; 2023 "Go Big or Go Home: Garden Design with @katrinsgarten"; 2024 saw the release of Book No. 3: "With Heart & Fork Through Katrin's Garden Year 2025"; 2025 followed with Book No. 4: "With Heart & Fork Through Katrin's Garden Year 2026") and entertainer. Born and raised in Altmark, she now lives in Himbergen in the Lüneburg Heath. Can a place of residence sound more like a garden? Probably not.
And that’s exactly where it is: Her garden. Her retreat. The source of all her creative katrinsgarten constructions. And the breeding ground for countless incredible stories. There, she has single-handedly felled 25 fir trees with a handsaw, following the motto: a woman can do it herself. And when the organic fertilizer accidentally ends up on the Christmas tree, only “Chief Gardener” Tyson, Katrin's dachshund, is thrilled. Together, they form an unbeatable team when it comes to planning, caring for, and nurturing. Then there’s Waldemar, the husband, who thinks the fat hen belongs more in the chicken coop. And when Katrin advises on “stabbing,” it’s always with the best intentions. In "Gardening Without Much Fuss," Katrin Iskam serves up plenty of practical tips and just as many funny anecdotes. A very different kind of “Happy Garden.” And if someone happens to get lost in Himbergen and stands in front of her front door, “Katrinchen” has a down-to-earth and preventive piece of advice ready: Burglary is pointless at my place; the money is in the garden.
